More about the project
Central Transit project
This project utilizes the existing transportation corridors that already have allocated light-rail rights-of-ways. The project integrates new technology transit systems into these existing corridors. This methodology doesn't replace the automobile, it provides a convenient and quick alternative mode of transportation for Valley residents and visitors.
Where does the project start? The project began in the 1990s with the idea from the Rails to Trails initiative. Since that rail-line was once used for transportation, it highlighted the needed for an alternative mode of transportation to replace Fresno's light-rail network. The question arose: "how can this be accomplished without another overwhelming and bloated tax burden?"
The answer required a lot of research, planning and innovation.
