Attaining Sustainable Transportation

How do we build a new mode of transportation?  Since train technology is 200 years old, automobile technology is 125 years old and airplanes have been around for 100 years, it's time for a new technology to appear.

How do we build a new mode of transportation?

Train technology is 200 years old.

Automobile technology is 125 years old.

Airplanes have been around for 100 years.

What motivated invention for the train, automobile, and airplane technology?

Is it fair to say that today society demands a change towards sustainable transportation?

Where is this new technology?

Let's set some parameters, listed in importance of value for a new mode of transportation:

Convenience

Fast (faster than a train, car, or jet)

Less expensive to operate

Safer

More efficient

Non polluting

In the automobile centric urban land-use design used in Western society, train technology is not convenient.

Cars are wholly unsustainable. Society is demanding faster travel options. Everyone knows someone who was killed in an automobile accident.

Society's motivation exists to find a new mode of transportation.
