High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP)

What is HAARP?

The HAARP facility is based on a large antenna array which serves to study Earth’s upper atmosphere. Its function is to perform experiments relating to Earth’s upper atmosphere. It has the ability to create plasma structures and irregularities which use the ionosphere like an antenna to excite low frequency waves, create weak luminous aurora-like glows, and a variety of other experiments. By generating and receiving high frequency radio waves, it tests plasma structures and ion transfers. Additionally, HAARP creates weak luminous aurora-like glows. It also serves as a facility for cooperative atmospheric studies. Their website states: The HAARP site is an ideal location for deploying synergistic instrumentation for studying radio and space physics. Investigators interested in deploying diagnostic apparatus including radio receivers and radar, lidar, optical imagers and spectrometers, and interferometers.

From the official HAARP website:

The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program, or HAARP, is a scientific endeavor aimed at studying the properties and behavior of the ionosphere. "The ionosphere stretches roughly 50 to 400 miles above Earth's surface, right at the edge of space. Along with the neutral upper atmosphere, the ionosphere forms the boundary between Earth's lower atmosphere — where we live and breathe — and the vacuum of space." (NASA)

Operation of the research facility was transferred from the United States Air Force to the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Aug. 11, 2015, allowing HAARP to continue with exploration of ionospheric phenomenology via a land-use cooperative research and development agreement.

HAARP is the world's most capable high-power, high-frequency transmitter for study of the ionosphere. The HAARP program is committed to developing a world-class ionospheric research facility consisting of:

  • The Ionospheric Research Instrument, a high-power transmitter facility operating in the High Frequency range. The IRI can be used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere for scientific study.
  • A sophisticated suite of scientific or diagnostic instruments that can be used to observe the physical processes that occur in the excited region.

Observation of the processes resulting from the use of the IRI in a controlled manner will allow scientists to better understand processes that occur continuously under the natural stimulation of the sun.

An excerpt from a more detailed description of HAARP is provided by Wikipedia

Work on the HAARP facility began in 1993. The current working IRI was completed in 2007; its prime contractor was BAE Systems Advanced Technologies. As of 2008, HAARP had incurred around $250 million in tax-funded construction and operating costs. In May 2014, it was announced that the HAARP program would be permanently shut down later in the year. After discussions between the parties, ownership of the facility was transferred to the University of Alaska Fairbanks in August 2015.

In 2015, operations were transferred to the University of Alaska.

Conspiracies

The process of testing the unknown comes with the risks of effects. There is a question as to this cloud pattern as being an effect of HARRP testing.

HAARP is a test facility to study various atmospheric events. The study of Earth’s magnetosphere is a rational pursuit. Although scientific experimentation holds a different pursuit than nefarious intent, conspiracy enthusiasts have justifiable reasons for government distrust. To validate conspiracy suspicions of a nefarious scientific nature, a rational accusation should hold a respectable scientific comprehension of subatomic action when speaking about quantum mechanics. Accusations of controlling Earth’s weather patterns, creating aurora borealis effects, targeting laser weapons, causing earthquakes, and turning people’s thoughts into acting as weaponized devices are among conspiracy topics. Although government actors may be undermining Constitutional laws to subvert societal peace in an effort to enhance their financial gain or strengthen their grip of political rule, the intent of HAARP is to study Earth’s atmosphere.

DARPA

Conspiracy enthusiasts have more justification to be concerned about DARPA instead of HAARP, it has a much more sinister appearance. Wikipedia explains the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as an independent research and development agency of the United States Department of Defense, responsible for the development of emerging technologies for use by the military.

DARPA is independent of other military research and development and reports directly to senior Department of Defense management. DARPA comprises approximately 220 government employees in six technical offices, including nearly 100 program managers, who together oversee about 250 research and development programs.

Wikipedia shows an extremely interesting and extensive list of DARPA projects.

Not all of DARPA is conspiratorial. Some amazing technology has been developed with DARPA innovation.

The Economist has called DARPA the agency that shaped the modern world, with technologies like "weather satellitesGPSdronesstealth technologyvoice interfaces, the personal computer and the internet on the list of innovations for which DARPA can claim at least partial credit." Its track record of success has inspired governments around the world to launch similar research and development agencies.

Advanced transportation technology

Are developing new modes of transportation too advanced for government agencies? Perhaps, nonetheless, social demand for advances in transportation is at its peak. Primarily because there have been no new modes of transportation in over100 years. 50 years ago, space travel was a common theme in conversations. Those conversations today of building space colonies and living on the moon have disappeared. In an abrogating philosophic statement, the spirit of expanse, adventure, and community enrichment seem to have been replaced by a social attitude of self-enrichment and indolence. Perhaps it’s best that the worst of human kind lack the ability to travel in space or have a means of quick and efficient transportation.

There are several aspects for researching efficient transportation; explored in the blogpost Earth’s electrostatic charges:

According to NASA, the magnetosphere also protects Earth from large quantities of particle radiation emitted during coronal mass ejection (CME) events and also from cosmic rays — atom fragments — raining down on Earth from deep space. The magnetosphere repels harmful energy away from Earth and traps it in zones called the Van Allen radiation belts. These donut-shaped belts of radiation can swell when the sun's activity increases.

Further into the blogpost:

This addresses the acknowledgment that Earth’s composition is comprised of ferrous elements and magnetic action. All magnets affect ferrous elements. The presents of an electromagnetic field surrounding Earth is the corresponding reaction to many forms of Earth’s internal magnetic and electromagnetic action.

This trail of research relates to how gravity and Earth’s magnetic field can potentially be used for transportation. Researching this line of studying Earth’s magnetic field is imperative for advancements in transportation.

Potential solutions for efficient space travel can be found in the blogpost Ultra-high-speed travel:

Ultra-high-speed long-distance travel

In the search for how to best build an ultra-fast space flight vehicle; what is the most appropriate technological approach? These pieces for building theories of design for attaining ultra-high speeds for space flight have become the focus of importance: gravity manipulation, spin, magnets, electrogravitics, and electromagnetics. The pursuit is how to fit these pieces together is like a puzzle.

There are two aspects of greatest need for efficient transportation: short distance and ultra high-speed space travel.

Today’s patterns of population increase with its urban growth are a mixture of transit reliant and automobile centric. Urban design establishes the different types of movement of people and goods.
Immediate need for short distance transportation

Is there a way to draw attention to society regarding its need to break bad a habit? Sustainability is indeed vital. It’s imperative to urban growth. And yet, with the current methodology of land-use design, sustainability is impossible.
Where do new discoveries in transportation come from?

Where do new discoveries in transportation come from? Maintaining the road infrastructure is the government’s obligation, innovation is the obligation of the private sector.
